CARING FOR CATS EAST YORKSHIRE
Welcome to Caring For Cats East Yorkshire
We are a local, registered charity working in the East Yorkshire region.
We have no paid staff and are run entirely by volunteers. Some people wrongly believe that there is government funding for our work but there is not and we are entirely depend upon the generosity of our kind-hearted supporters and our own fundraising to finance the charity.

Our main aim is to rescue, offer shelter to and re-home unwanted cats and kittens.
Some of our cats and kittens come from homes where circumstances have changed and the cats cannot be cared for anymore.
Some are lost cats who have become strays, there were many after the floods last year, and some have been living rough, so called 'ferals'.
Any cat “living on the street”, whether born there or strayed from a loving home, deserves a second chance and these are the ones we give priority to. We will only ever consider having a cat put to sleep upon the advice of a veterinary surgeon when a cat would not have quality of life. We always strive to re-unite where we can.

At any one time there will be about 80 cats, of all ages, in the care of the charity. Some only stay for a short while until they are rehomed while a small number of ‘sponsored cats’ remain with our volunteers for the rest of their lives.

Upon being taken in by the charity all our cats go directly to one of our supporting vets for FIV/leukaemia blood testing and a general health check. This will include, or be followed by, any necessary veterinary treatment. The cats will be neutered and vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms and micro-chipped. They will live at the homes of our volunteer fosterers while any necessary treatment continues and then when they are ready for rehoming they move to the Homing Centre in Market Weighton.

Sadly we always have a long waiting list of cats in situations from which they need rescuing. We can only help them all as our funds allow and as we find loving and responsible homes for the cats and kittens already in our Homing Centre. We do though, succeed in re-homing over 400 cats and kittens each year.

If you want to offer a secure, loving home please look at our 'Cats Waiting For A New Home' pages and also read our page 'Choosing a Cat or Kitten' before visiting us at:-
