CHANTEL McGREGOR
A top blues band featuring the amazing guitar playing of this highly talented young performer. At the grand old age of eight Chantel Mcgregor became the youngest person in the country to pass a Rockschool grade. By the age of twelve she was regularly playing and singing at the famous Melborn Hotel in Bradford at the weekly jam session. Helped and encouraged by all the musicians, she developed rapidly into am incredible rock and blues musician.
Described as a ‘prodigy’, a visit from a major label soon followed and at fourteen she was told "great voice, but girls don't play guitar like that!" by the head of their A&R. Their advice to ‘change styles because boys would be intimidated was met with an attitude of "that's their problem! I'm not changing!" Singing and playing on national television and radio soon followed.
A meeting with two renowned producers soon led to a change in direction from live performance to recording and writing. This coupled with exams and advice meant an end to live performing for around four years.
Qualified at Grade Eight, the wrong “A” Levels required for a music degree course meant enrolling at the world renowned Leeds College of Music for a Btec in Popular Music where she became the first student in the college’s history to achieve a 100% pass mark with 18 distinctions. Progressing onto the degree course she became the holder of the prize for Outstanding Musicianship for 2006/7 on the way to achieving a First Class Honours Degree in Popular Music in 2009.
This led to the formation of the rock blues trio, The Chantel McGregor Band.
The group play a great blend of well known blues covers and excellent self-penned material with Chantel appearing to be perfectly at home on stage playing their music.
REVIEWS:
Once again, she played brilliantly, with a seeming lack of any effort and managed to keep the audience entertained both with the music and with her stream of consciousness ramblings between songs. The band treated us to some of the best in rock and blues. The set included, covers of Jimi Hendrix (All Along t'Watchtower, Voodoo Chile, Purple Haze, Red House), Fleetwood Mac (Gold Dust Woman), Eric Clapton/Cream (Badge, Stormy Monday), Jethro Tull (Too Old to Rock and Roll) and Joe Bonamassa (Miss You, Hate You).
As expected, the playing was brilliant, with all three members of the band giving superb performances. As I have said before, it is too easy to run out of superlatives when talking about this band and, in particular, Chantel herself. She really does have to be seen for her playing to be believed.

REVIEW 2
She is stunning, awesome, gorgeous, a prodigy, and the sweetest, most self-effacing guitar-goddess on the planet. Her fingers darted over the frets like spiders legs weaving a web on a speeded-up film and the four of us were reduced to watching, spellbound, incapable of doing anything other than dribble beer down our throats in silence. You just have to see her live. I urge you, you really have to see her live.
Roger Butler Ellis.
