Volunteer Trustee
For a Job Description and detailed Person Specification or to discuss this role please contact Hull Women’s Centre.

Closing date: New round of recruiting soon.

Anyone wishing to become involved in this role needs to submit a short letter saying why they want to be involved and what skills they can offer. You will then be invited for an informal discussion with other trustees. On becoming a trustee you will be given an induction and support from other trustees as needed.

Summary of role:

Trustees are responsible for the overall management of the charity although day to day running of the Centre is the responsibility of staff. Trustees have ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the charity, and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run, and delivering the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the public for which it has been set up.

They are required to attend a Management Collective meetings which is usually held on the first Thursday of every month for about 2 hours from 5.30pm.

They may also undertake work outside of these meetings e.g. working on funding bids, policy development, finance meetings, supporting/supervising staff, reading reports or representing the Centre as required and depending on skills.

The Trustees role involves approximately 4 hours per month.

Trustees may also be asked to be an authorised signatory for the Centre’s bank account.

This role would be ideally suited to a woman who
has experience of the voluntary sector or of being a trustee (although training can be provided to those new to the role), has a knowledge and experience of women’s organisations and how they work, understands women’s issues, is committed to the aims and objectives of the Centre, has the ability to get on with volunteers, paid workers and service users and feels they have relevant skills to offer the Centre.

*On the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 the Centre holds its Management Collective meetings. The collective is made up of volunteers, staff, ex volunteers, Centre users, and representatives of appropriate agencies. The collective's role is to oversee the running of the Centre and help develop the services it provides. Any women who are interested are welcome to attend.

Childcare expenses are available. Why not come along and get involved or phone the centre for more information?
