LENT / EASTER & PENTECOST BANNERS
Eight banners will be hung in Bricknell Avenue Methodist Church as the season of Lent proceeds.
Here we reproduce photos of the Banners that week by week are added in Church.
The Banners have been created under the direction of Myra Autherson.

1st SUNDAY IN LENT 1st SUNDAY IN LENT
The first Sunday in Lent is when we place bread and a wine chalice on the Lenten Cross,to remind us of the last supper Jesus shared with His disciples when He introduced the sacrament of Holy Communion.

Read Matthew 26:26-29


The second Sunday in Lent when placed on the Lenten Cross is a towel and a basin to remind us of Jesus washing His disciples' feet.

Read John 13. vv1-14


The third Sunday in Lent is when we place on the cross a bag of money which was handed to Judas when he betrayed Jesus.

The fourth Sunday in Lent is when we place on the Lenten cross
the crown of thorns and the purple robe to remind us of how the Roman soldiers mocked Jesus, The King of Kings.

The fifth Sunday in Lent is when we place on the Lenten cross a whip, to remind us of the pain and humiliation inflicted on Jesus by his captors even before he was crucified.

6th Sunday -
Today is when we place on the Lenten Cross a palm branch to remind us of the welcome Jesus received from the crowds as he entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.

This concludes the Lenten banner series, but there will be a new and larger banner for Easter Day. This will be displayed in Church for an indefinite period - because Jesus is alive on Easter Day and every day

The Lenten Cross on Easter Day is stripped of the reminders of Easter Week and Flowers depicting a new dawning are placed on the empty cross.
