The Luddites The Luddites
Popular at the time of the Red Guitars and their ep 'Strength Of Your Cry' was released before the Red Guitars single. John Peel liked them and offered a Peel Session. The song 'Doppelganger' also featured on the Tube Special in Hull. Drummer Dave Stead eventually found success with the Beautiful South.
Three Action Three Action
Popular group around the time of the Housemartins but despite a couple of singles they failed to have a national impact.
Pink Noise Pink Noise
Popular band from the late 80's. Released two singles including 'The Thin End of The Wedge'
Quel Domage Quel Domage
Popular group from the mid -80's. Released a single 'Bright Lights' on Hull's Xcentric Noise label in 1984.
Vicious Circle Vicious Circle
A goth band formed from the remnants of The Luddites.
The Velvetones The Velvetones
The Velvetones were another popular local act and performed a '30's jazz swing style'. They were also another breeding ground for musicians with Dave Hemmingway joining the Housemartins and guitairst Dave Rotheray now the guitarist & co songwriter with the Beautiful South.
The Gargoyles The Gargoyles
Very popular local band who were very entertaining due to their humourous lyrics & charismatic singer Eddie Smith.
They released two albums and were also famous for providing the initial Rhythmn section for the Housemartins, Ted Key & Hugh Whittaker. Ted left to return to the Gargoyles however.
International Rescue International Rescue
Bridlington's finest band. They were formed in 1980 and soon attracted a deal with Polydor France. A single & album were recorded but not released due to problems with their manager. They toured constantly and supported Scottish band Orange Juice. The band created their own label and recorded further singles and an album whilst guitarist Steve Skinner joined Orange Juice.
